Core Programs

Education LIF began policy work in education over a decade ago, focusing primarily on increasing access to higher education for California students. In 1991, LIF published the first report card on the status of Latinos at the UC, CSU and community college level. LIF also created the Hispanic Coalition on Higher Education and the Chicano/Latino Intersegmental Convocation during this time.
Strengthening the Health of Our Community LIF’s Health Program seeks to enhance and promote the health indicators for the 11 million Latinos in California including low-income, rural, immigrant and limited-English speaking populations.
Consumer Protections LIF’s consumer protection program focuses on legal advocacy on behalf of consumers in order to secure basic necessities of everyday life: home energy service, telecommunications and information service, and water service.
Sustainable Development Through our Sustainable Development Program LIF works to ensure that all members of California’s present and future generations have access to healthy environments, economic prosperity and social-well being.
Technology and Telecommunications LIF has a long and rich history of working in policy areas affecting the Latino community that have historically been and continue to be ignored, misrepresented or omitted from policy agendas of statewide and local agencies. As 21st century technology progresses at an exponential pace, this problem is perhaps most severe in the area of technology, telecommunications and consumer protection.
